Hindu traditions speak about the divine in many ways: as ultimate reality, a personal Lord, Goddess, beloved form, indwelling presence, or sacred reality approached through several names and forms. Deity profiles are therefore introductions to relationships and traditions, not character cards.
Each profile identifies names, pronunciation, iconography, major stories, textual settings, festivals, and forms of worship. It also notes where a description is especially associated with Vaishnava, Shaiva, Shakta, Smarta, regional, or family contexts. Categories overlap: Krishna is revered as Vishnu’s avatar in many settings and as the supreme Lord in others; Devi may be approached through Durga, Lakshmi, Kali, Parvati, Saraswati, and many more forms.
